The Portuguese Foundation, Inc. has selected Caitlin M. Daly of Waterbury, Connecticut to receive a scholarship award. Caitlin is a senior at Holy Cross High School where she is a member of the National Honors Society. She has received the Painting Award for the highest average in a Painting course at Holy Cross High School and she received the Visual Arts Award at the Connecticut Association of Schools Annual Recognition Banquet. According to her Art Instructor, she has produced a portfolio of artwork that is “beyond her chronological age.” Her future plans are to attend Art School at the University of Hartford in the fall. She is the daughter of Kevin J. Daly, Jr. and Ann M. Daly (nee, Oliveira) of Waterbury, Connecticut. Caitlin traces her Portuguese ancestry to Murtosa, Portugal. |

The Portuguese Foundation, Inc. has selected Kayla S. Fonseca of Watertown, Connecticut to receive a scholarship award. Kayla is a senior at John F. Kennedy High School in Waterbury where she is a student in the Gifted Program and a National Honor Society member. She was an active participant at two sessions of the Harvard Model United Nations worldwide conference where she represented her high school and country among 2700 students from around the globe. She has also been active member of SEARCH, which is a volunteer program with the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection that monitors water quality. Her future plans are to attend college in the fall. She is the daughter of José L. Fonseca and Elizabeth Fonseca. Kayla traces her ancestry to Bragado, Vila Pouca de Aguiar, Portugal. |

The Portuguese Foundation, Inc. has selected Sara T. Silva of Bridgeport, Connecticut to receive a scholarship award. Sara is a senior at Central Magnet High School in Bridgeport, Connecticut where she is ranked 5th in a class of 585 and has excelled in several advanced placement courses. She is the leader of the National Honor Society and Secretary for the Class of 2009. Additionally, she was named an AP Scholar with Honor for having passed four AP exams as a junior, and won several awards including the Swarthmore Book Award, the Excellence in Computer Science Award and the CAPT Scholar Award. Her future plans are to attend college in the fall. She is the daughter of Jorge M. Silva and Fernanda T. Costa. Sara was born in Figueira Da Foz, Coimbra, Portugal and immigrated to the U.S. at age 11. |

The Portuguese Foundation, Inc. has selected Marcellina T. Teixeira of Bridgeport, Connecticut to receive a scholarship award. Marcellina is a senior at St. Joseph High School in Trumbull, Connecticut where she is a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society. She has maintained a career GPA of 91.85 while taking demanding course schedules with College Level and Honors Level courses. She won the Pine Tree Poetry Contest and is also a member of the National Young Leasers Conference. Her future plans are to attend college in the fall. She is the daughter of Ronald Teixeira and Victoria F. Teixeira of Bridgeport, Connecticut. Marcellina’s family traces its ancestry to Portugal. |
